Central City Physiotherapy was established in Lambton Quay, Wellington in 1989.

The practice offers high quality service and enjoys an excellent reputation with health professionals and clients. This is reflected by the return of satisfied clients and self referral from clients and their co-workers.

Our Team

Our Central City Physiotherapy team are all highly experienced and motivated therapists. All have or are working towards post-graduate qualifications, offering you a holistic approach towards recovery.

Each physiotherapist offers special skills as well as a broad range of experience. Our commitment to clinical excellence requires continually upgrading skills and keeping up to date with the latest research. We hold regular in-house training and attend weekend courses along with national and international scientific conferences.

Staff Profiles

Kara Mulvein – MSc Manip Ther, BSc(Hons)

- Owner and principal physiotherapist
Kara graduated from the Royal London Hospital 1988 with a BSc (Hons) and gained a wide variety of practical experience in public and private sector in the UK.  She obtained a Masters in Manipulative Therapy at the University of Queensland following eighteen months working in private practice in Australia. The ongoing research at Queensland heightened her interest in spinal problems and particularly the influence of spinal (core) stabilisation in relation to other conditions (such as sports injuries).

In 1996 she completed the PAANZ acupuncture course. Kara also has a special interest in women’s health problems, including pre and post-natal back pain. Skills include excellent clinical reasoning, integrating a neuro-muscular-articular approach to assessment and treatment, thus ensuring a high standard of professional practice.

Kara is an extremely motivated therapist continually updating her skills by attending courses and conferences both nationally and internationally. She has also been involved in lecturing small groups and giving presentations.

Jackie Stanley – Dip Phys, Dip Manip Therapy

Jackie graduated from the Otago Polytechnic School of Physiotherapy in 1992 and completed a Diploma in Manipulative Therapy in 1999. She spent 3 years working in the UK in the NHS before coming back to New Zealand and working here at Central City Physiotherapy for 5 years.

Jackie then returned to the UK where she worked in private practice for a further 11 years. She has now returned to Central City Physiotherapy Clinic in 2012. Jackie has a keen interest in treating all sports and spinalconditions.

She has a young family and is a keen runner and skier

Dan Sainsbury – BPhty

Dan obtained his Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2010 from Otago University in Dunedin. He then went on a working holiday to the UK at Llandough hospital in Cardiff, Wales, where he worked in the outpatients department dealing with rehabilitation for a variety of musculo-skeletal injuries. 

In 2011 he returned to work in Palmerston North at a private practice clinic and CityFitness gym. This gave him a thorough grounding in sports and exercise physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Dan has a keen interest in sports and sports related physiotherapy and has been involved with a wide variety of teams and clubs including the Cardiff Blues youth rugby academy and Palmerston North Basketball Association.

He is currently the physiotherapist for Brooklyn Northern United Football Club and manages this around his work and training in mixed martial arts and Jiu Jitsu.

Peter Snowdon – BPhty

Peter graduated from the University of Otago in 2010 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree (BPhty).  Peter began working as a rotational physiotherapist for the Southern District Health Board in 2011.  He was able to consolidate his clinical skills in the varying hospital environment and developed an interest in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries.  

Peter moved to Wellington at the beginning of 2012 to pursue a private practice position.  He enjoys the fast-paced nature of private practice physiotherapy and has a particular interest in sports-related rehabilitation, exercise prescription and injury prevention.

Peter is passionate about continual professional development and regularly attends course and inservice trainings to maintain current practicing standards.

Peter has had an extensive sporting career with several national titles and represented New Zealand gymnastics for seven years.  Currently, Peter enjoys middle distance running, swimming, rock climbing and aims to participate in triathlon events this year.
