

Central City Physiotherapy was established in Lambton Quay, Wellington in 1989. The practice offers high quality service and enjoys an excellent reputation with health professionals and clients. This is reflected by the return of satisfied clients and self referral from clients and their co-workers.
Our Team
Our Central City Physiotherapy team are all highly experienced and motivated therapists. All have or are working towards post-graduate qualifications, offering you a holistic approach towards recovery.
Each physiotherapist offers special skills as well as a broad range of experience. Our commitment to clinical excellence requires continually upgrading skills and keeping up to date with the latest research. We hold regular in-house training and attend weekend courses along with national and international scientific conferences.
Kara Mulvein - Owner and principal physiotherapist (MNZSP,MSc Manip Ther,BSc(Hons))
Kara graduated from the Royal London Hospital 1988 with a BSc (Hons) and gained a wide variety of practical experience in public and private sector in the UK.
She obtained a Masters in Manipulative Therapy at the University of Queensland following eighteen months working in private practice in Australia. The ongoing research at Queensland heightened her interest in spinal problems and particularly the influence of spinal (core) stabilisation in relation to other conditions (such as sports injuries). In 1996 she completed the PAANZ acupuncture course. Kara also has a special interest in women’s health problems, including pre and post-natal back pain.
Skills include excellent clinical reasoning, integrating a neuro-muscular-articular approach to assessment and treatment, thus ensuring a high standard of professional practice.
Kara is an extremely motivated therapist continually updating her skills by attending courses and conferences both nationally and internationally. She has also been involved in lecturing small groups and giving presentations.

Julie Osborn – Physiotherapist (MNZSP, Dip.Phty)
Julie graduated from Dunedin in 1980. Initially, her work was in the public system focusing on orthopaedic rehabilitation. In 1984-1987 she was team leader in musculo-skeletal outpatients, teaching and supervising more junior physiotherapy staff and students from Otago. She has also worked with Robin McKenzie at the McKenzie Institute.
Julie took a 10 year break to raise a family before returning to the workforce in 2003, having fully updated her skills by completing the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapy two year part-time course.
Julie’s skills include excellent clinical assessment of OOS problems, back and neck pain and sports injuries. She has a special interest in muscle imbalance problems where inappropriate recruitment, weakness or tightness can lead to ongoing injuries and niggles.

Kate Anderson - Physiotherapist (MNZSP, B.Phty)
Kate graduated from the Univeristy of Otago in 2003 with credit. She initially worked in a busy private practice in Dunedin for a year prior to travelling overseas. In London she took on some challenging roles working both in outpatient departments and the community. Her community work included individualised treatment, as well as training and advice of carers for clients with learning disabilities- Kate learnt sign language during this time!
Kate continues her professional development and is participating in the manual physiotherapy post-graduate courses.

Eimear Griffin – Physiotherapist (MNZSP, BSc (Physio))
Eimear obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at Keele University in the United Kingdom in 2006. She obtained a good grounding at a Regional Hospital in the Republic of Ireland participating in a number of external courses throughout 2007 and 2008. Her interest in sports physiotherapy is demonstrated by her involvement with County Westmeath Senior Gaelic football team from 2007-2008 and the senior hurling team. She worked with both teams throughout the Gaelic seasons from prescreening through to onside pitch assessments, treatments, and rehab programs.
Eimear shows a passion for physiotherapy and is currently utilizing the mentoring programme that is offered at Central City Physiotherapy Clinic for accelerated learning.

Andrea Scott - Physiotherapist (MNZSP,Dip Phty,Dip Manip Therapy)
Andrea qualified at the Otago School of Physiotherapy in 1984. She originally worked at the hospital before taking employment in various Wellington region private practices. At this time she was a team Physio for senior rugby and soccer teams. In 1988 she became a joint practice owner of 3 practices, in Titahi Bay, Whitby and Porirua. In 1992 she left on maternity leave and has now finally returned (3 boys later!).
Andrea’s passion in physiotherapy continued over this time: She was a clinical tutor at the Victoria University Physiotherapy Clinic for Otago University between 1996-1998. Andrea has also attended our weekly Central City Inservice sessions for the last 2 years and been involved doing various locums whilst juggling her many varied other commitments. Andrea brings with her an added dimension of life experience: her parenting, sports coaching, competitive tennis, committee involvement and recent course on Maori culture, history and health. She is back, 3 mornings a week and is participating in the mentoring scheme.

Jo Richmond
Jo graduated from the Withington School of Physiotherapy in 1982, having previously completed a B.Ed. in Education and Human Movement at the University of Sussex. In the U.K., she worked in both the public and private sectors and completed a post-graduate manipulation course, subsequently undertaking teaching part-time for 6 years on that course. On return to London for 15 months in 2000/2001, Jo updated her acupuncture skills from a traditional Chinese approach, as well as working in the Occupational Health field at international newspaper and law firms.
Jo has a National diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and works part-time in the clinic. Jo’s strength is a combination of in depth theoretical knowledge combined with a high standard of clinical skills and having a holistic approach to treatment.

Beata Matuz
Beata is a very important member of Central City Physiotherapy Team. Her organisational skills and efficiency are highly valued by both the physios and clients.
She has a sound background in office management. Her attention to detail and friendly personality make her the perfect office manager/receptionist for Central City Physiotherapy Clinic.
Beata has a good knowledge of ACC and can help with any paperwork needed to be filled in prior to treatment. She will ring you each morning to confirm your appointment.
Her positive personality adds a cheerful component to our Clinic atmosphere.
